Beltane 2014 - Oracle

Oracle of the Goddess Dana as Given to Olivia Robertson

Invocation: Divine Dana, we cannot live happily without hope. Be present with us, during our arduous pilgrimage through life’s labyrinth, smoothing our way with joy, laughter and love.

Oracle: You need to return to your roots in order to grow! It is through love of those living with you that you attain a wider love, and not through spurning your family! It is from your children that you may again learn the language of birds and trees, and through your grandparents that you may hear the music of the spheres!

As you develop the magical language of the Angels, you will find your own spiritual family. It comprises humans, Deities, the Sidhe, Nature Spirits, animals, trees and stones - not only on this planet - but from the stars! Such families are as constellations in the great galaxy. My
Tuatha Dé Danann came from the sky, yet also dwell within the Hidden Sun at Earth’s matrix. The Golden Age shines about you, resplendent in the matriarchal darkness. Naught is alien when all is known and loved. You are kin to all beings in the cosmos and all are kin to Me.

Beltane 2014 - Reflections

St. Catherine

Reflections for Beltane 2014

Since writing the last Isian News I have had the wonderful news that I will, Goddess willing, be a grandma around the time of this next Autumn Equinox. This is my first grandchild so I am still adjusting with excitement to the new role and life’s wheel turning forward to the next generation. Through my own study and experience of pregnancy I know the importance of the supporting matrix to the well being of the new baby. I want a bumper sticker that says: ‘special person on board; grandmother-to-be in car’; or another: ‘interconnected web weaver present’. I am, of course by no means unique, but am enjoying how the experience of this primal and essential process connects me with women across the world and across time. My small local 12th century church has two principal medieval wall paintings close to the altar; one is St Catherine (see attached picture) and the other St Margaret of Antioch. The latter, so the story tells, was swallowed by a dragon but was able to cut herself out of it’s belly to emerge safely and earn herself the honour of becoming the patron saint of childbirth.

When I stand close to her image I can imagine the many women who too have stood at her feet, praying for the safe delivery into the outside world of the precious new life nurtured within their own womb. I make my devotions and I then thank the Goddess for modern health care.

Women in their third trimester find they are pulled to a more inward focus as they disengage from the outside world to enter the necessary maternal preoccupation of motherhood. Many consider a similar period of contemplation, reflection and metaphoric ‘wandering in the wilderness’ to be necessary to fuel the rebirth and growth we witness at springtime and other new starts in our lives.

This is how I see this period now, running up to the FOI’s 40th anniversary at the vernal equinox in 2016. Not by any means fallow in terms of total ‘set aside’ with no fresh seeds to be planted and tended; but a time to reconnect to what it is you are called to now in terms of divine service.  My focus when I was originally ordained by Olivia a few years ago, feels very different to how I feel drawn to serve now. Recent circumstances have of course shaped the new directions. I am guessing that I am not alone in this; a period of realignment and rededication perhaps around the quiet more fallow times could be a useful spiritual deepening and honing. There will be two such periods, in a sense two winter sabbaticals between now and the 40th anniversary; the first, the winter months of this year could also be a chance to revisit our own regular spiritual practice, the backbone of our divine connection that nourishes and shapes everything else. Perhaps the second winter can build upon this in terms of how we may serve the divine for a better world. Please communicate with me what your thoughts are on this.

Broader structures within the FOI are also going to be ‘spring cleaned’ so we meet the anniversary with fresh energy and purpose. One of these areas is the basic priesthood training and another will be the rites of passage liturgies - more of this in the next Isian News.

I was reminded on my recent trip to Ireland when talking and enjoying time with members of the Circle of Brigid that the name ‘Fellowship of Isis’ was not a random choice for the three founders. The dictionary definition of a fellowship emphasises it’s a ‘friendly association, people who share interests, meeting to pursue a shared aim’...I have experienced such warmth and support in my new role despite some of the challenges that are inevitably part of it. We connect through the supporting matrix of the fellowship so egoic needs of the self can be laid aside in the knowing that within the warm heart of the Divine One we are all safe.

I leave you with this prayer inspired by Teresa of Avila:

The Beloved has no body on earth but mine.
The Beloved has no hands on earth but mine.
Mine are the eyes through which the Beloved
Streams compassion to the world.
Mine are the hands with which the Beloved
Is to bless all beings.
May I have the grace to know this mystery,
The courage to give myself to it entirely,
And the strength to enact its truth in the world.

With love and blessings, Cressida.

Beltane 2014 - Announcements and Events

Announcements & Events

Change in Membership of the Circle of Brigid:

There have been a couple of further changes to the membership of the Circle of Brigid since those I sent only recently. Perhaps you would kindly update your website notices for us:

The Rt. Rev. Pat Griffin wishes to retire at this stage of her life, having worked with Olivia for many years and run regular Fellowship meetings in her home in Dublin until just a couple of years ago. As she is not able to be with us on a regular basis any more, she is stepping down from the Circle of Brigid. However, we very much hope that she will come whenever she can, and, of course, for many years she was our most senior priestess together with one or two others whose association with the Fellowship went way back. We all love her gentle ways and genuine devotion to the Goddess who is so apparent when you are with her.

Her retirement meant that there was a vacancy in our membership to be filled, and we are all delighted that Maire Doyle, one of our loyal and much liked priestesses, has accepted our invitation to assist in continuing to run the 8 Annual Festivals held in The Temple of Isis, which was created by the Co-Founders of the Fellowship, Olivia, Lawrence and Pamela Durdin-Robertson in the basement of their home in Clonegal Castle,

Many Blessings!
Minette Quick
(Hon. Sec. Circle of Brigid)

Beltane 2014 - Reports

Reports

Spring Equinox 22/3/2014.

Saturday dawned overcast and wet and more than a little cold. It was only because I was going to Clonegal that I eventually persuaded myself to exit my warm bed.
I set off with windscreen wipers in motion and the radio and heating turned on. Just outside of Brittas the rain turned to sleet and then snow. I didn’t envy some cyclists I passed on the road. By the time I had driven through the town of Blessington there was snow on the footpaths and side of the road.

Arriving in Clonegal I turned into the daffodil-lined driveway to the castle. Soon other members of the priesthood arrived and we greeted each other with hugs and ‘how are you’. We gathered in the warmth of the Theatre where Cressida Pryor soon joined us. Because it was so cold and I’m recovering from a bad cold I decided not to join the procession to the Grove. Our esteemed Gatekeeper Andrew accompanied Priestess Eimear as our brother Priest David was unable to attend the Festival. Minette and I waited a while and then went and joined the procession as it arrived at Persephone’s shrine where Priestess Maureen, looking regal in her purple attire, invoked the Goddess.

Cressida opened the door to the Temple and led us in as Andrew went to ring the bell. At Brigid’s Well the Priesthood invoked deity and then Cressida asked the recently ordained priestesses to give blessings to all present. Priestess Cáit began singing in her gentle voice and we joined.

When we took our seats at the High Altar Priestess Sara, who was in trance, gave an inspired and beautiful oracle. Following this I read my poem (which I will post later). Priestess Barbara sang for us and then we had our mystery play. Priestesses Eimear and Alison took on the roles of the Mother and the Maiden. The Mother explained that it was time for her to hand over the Sacred Eggs and Seeds to her daughter, the Maiden, and it was now her responsibility to carry on the role of instructing the next generation, as the new life of the eggs and seeds come to fruition. The Maiden accepted her new role with the promise to carry on the ancient tradition. Grapes and chocolate covered raisins were then passed around.

We were then led on a magickal journey to the centre of the Earth, by Cait, where we encountered the hare and became one with him. Priestess Monica thrilled us with her own poem. Cressida called on Pamela to come forward with the Sun Wheel which was crafted by Lady Olivia’s nephew, David. Pamela held up the Wheel and we saw that it was covered with Olivia’s scarves, each one entwined around the wheel. This brought lots of ‘ohs’ and ‘ahhs’ as Pamela explained that Olivia always wore scarves, either around her head or neck, or around her shoulders. But when Pamela invited each of us to select a scarf, well, there are no words to describe the absolute delight of everyone in the Temple.

Even as I write I experience again the bittersweet emotion. The whole atmosphere was one of excitement. We were like children opening presents on Christmas morning. And we turned to each other to see what the other person got. With our newly acquired and prized present draped around our shoulders we thanked deity. The date of our next Festival, which will be Bealtaine, was announced for Saturday, 3rd May. Several priestesses gave healing; in the Star chapel, the Cave of the Mothers and in front of the High Altar. I went to Minette, our Archdruidess, and within a couple of minutes she said “She says you’re not to worry, everything will be fine”. Minette explained that ‘She’ is Lady Olivia!! This then was Olivia’s message for me. Minette asked if it meant anything to me. It certainly did, because I’ll be retiring in 6 weeks time and embarking on a new venture.

I arrived in Osbornes and was greeted by a welcoming heat. I joined Pamela and was soon tucking into sandwiches and the usual great cup of tea, of which I had several. Soon I began to feel more human, for my stomach had begun to think that my throat had been cut! Then Andrew and Maureen joined us. Some time later Cressida, Minette, Cait and Eimear arrived and the conversations became animated and intertwined.

Some people began to leave around 6.30 and by about 7pm most people were heading for the hills. I arrived home about 8.45 have enjoyed a most uplifting and pleasant day.

 “Olivia: Priestess of Isis” Screening
Friday February 28th, 2014, 7 pm MST
Crone’s Hollow 2470 S. Main Street Salt Lake City, Utah, USA

By Kasey Conder, ArchDruid, Druid Grove of Isis & Uta-ha
The screening had a fine turnout to view the outstanding documentary “Olivia: Priestess of Isis” by Logic Reality.  Many thanks to Dennis Murphy for granting such permission.  With many intrigued participants, the film was shown free of charge, projected on to a large screen.
The documentary is a stellar account of the life and work of Olivia Robertson, her involvement in the founding of the Fellowship of Isis and her ancestral home, Clonegal Castle.
The film is truly something that can be repeatedly watched, each time gaining introspection on the living legend, Olivia Robertson, and her work via the Fellowship of Isis.
With many laughs and fond memories shared before and after the screening about Olivia, the documentary provided additional solace to the loss in the material realm of such a truly extraordinary ArchPriestess, Lady Olivia Robertson.
Crone’s Hollow warmly welcomed the community event and Olivia’s inspiration was felt.   The superlative documentary can be purchased online at:

We are blessed to have such a finely presented historical account of the great priestess, visionary, artist and author, Lady Olivia Robertson.

Altar for Olivia's Memorial, Lyceum of Heka

Memorial for Olivia Robertson in Australia
By Setjataset, Prs. H., Lyceum of Heka

The Lyceum of Heka within the Fellowship of Isis, ran and facilitated by myself (Priestess Hierophant, Setjataset aka T. Georgitsis) hosted the Dulce Domum Ritual in memory of Olivia Robertson on Sunday, December the 1st at 3.30pm in Sandringham (SE Melbourne, Australia).
It was a warm day filled with dazzling sunshine as we met on the liminal beach cliff beneath the bandstand rotunda. We gathered in seclusion underneath the shade of a giant pine tree and set up the shrine upon the pine needled covered earth to enact the Dulce Domum ritual.

Upon the shrine I placed an image of Isis.  This was used to represent this wonderful Goddess who is the namesake of the Fellowship I have come to love due to Olivia Robertson being one of the founding members all those years ago. Around the image of Isis I had placed a heka infused ankh necklace I had made from carnelian and bronze.  The ankh is the symbol of ever lasting life and carnelian is identified as the setting sun and with the blood of Isis. Before the image of Isis, a candle was placed atop a holder in the shape of the Egyptian heart - Ib which houses thoughts, feelings and desires. Flanked on either side of the image of Isis, candles were placed in candle holders with engraved pictures of the dragonfly which is a totem symbolising transformation and adaptability.  Also upon the shrine was a handmade iron ankh which had been given to me as a gift previously by one of the attendees (Owen), which highlighted the symbology of the power of the ankh as the key of life. Other items used within the ritual such as my Bast handled sistra, glass chalice containing water, incense holder and several resin blends I had specially made for the ritual were also put upon the shrine.  The shrine was completed with an image of Olivia brought by one attendee who had taken the image during a trip to Olivia’s castle (Roxanne) as well as some lovely orchids left as an offering by another attendee (Cosette).

All gathered had a role to play during the ritual – as priestess hierophant I enacted the role of Isis and Hermies, Osiris by P’Wolverine, Anubis by Owen, Persephone by Cosette and Mayet by Roxanne.

The background noise around us reduced to a hum as the invocation and oracle was enacted and the ritual was worked through by shedding the shadow, the fair haven, the spirit awakens, spirit communion and the committal aspects of said rite whilst making various offerings of incense, candles being lit and sistrum shaking with accompanies prayers by all attendees gathered.

After the rite was completed and we wished Olivia’s spirit a safe journey to the Summerland, a few of us shared some personal stories we had before retiring to the pub for some more libations and agape in Olivia’s name.

Isis & Serapis 2014
Charcoal & Coffee grinds
by James Jacob Pierri

James Jacob Pierri, Iseum of the Sacred Lotus, New Jersey, USA: Modern Isiaicism: This is a subject I hint at here on my personal page but never express fully. It's such an important part of my life & spiritual development that it's time to share details. I was baptized Catholic and received all of the holy sacraments required. Although since I can remember my heart and inspiration went out to a Goddess, I saw Her face in the Holy Virgin Mary as a child but it wasn't until early adulthood did She reveal Her true identity and image to me. Isis. The ancient Egyptian Goddess or the Saturday morning TV hero you ask? I asked my self that as well. Isis fulfilled all of my spiritual needs, through my devotion to this quite real Entity, a quite real experience had sent and continues to prompt me to discover so much regarding life, love, spiritualism, history, art, travels, Latin and beyond. Taking my lifetime of experience and devotion of Isis I was lead to The Fellowship of Isis an international fellowship. The beautiful message or manifesto of a The Fellowship is of love and inspiration, there are many diverse traditions or paths, but they are of selflessness and self discovery, it's not a cult or something macabre, it holds mystery and urges all life to thrive in equality and peace. I discovered I wasn't alone, there were countless others called as well. There I trained and received Priesthood. After that I made a pilgrimage to an actual modern Isian Temple in California, in that experience I fulfilled my service and became acquainted with some of the most inspiring and wonderful people, among them High Priestess Loreon Vigne, Priestess & soul sister Shannon Michaela Doree Smith, Authors & Priestess Linda Iles & DeTraci Regula. Other amazing Isians such Caroline Wise and recently departed Lady Olivia Roberts the head of the Fellowship. As initiated priest I became ordained in the temple in California , from there established The Isem of the Sacred Lotus, a living temple dedicated to the honor and study of ancient & modern Isiasiscm, lead public meditations/rituals, raise money for charities and provide lectures. Through my activism with Isiacism one experience after the next has been positive, profound and extraordinary. I'd like to talk more about this part of my life openly here and share more stories and on goings as they occur. Amma Iset!

Johannes Nugroho Onggo Sanusi of the Iseum of the Goddess Pertiwi Queen of the South Seas, Indonesia: “One of China's oldest goddesses is Xi Wangmu (Queen Mother of the West) whose earliest portraiture depicted her wearing a shamanic tiger headdress. As she became integrated into the canonic Taoist pantheon, she was more often depicted as an empress. Indeed she was the personification of YIN in the Taoist Yin Yang symbol. She resides on the sacred Mount Kunlun where she has peach orchards that mature every 3,000 years. When the peaches are ripe, Xi Wangmu is said to invite all the immortals to a peach feast.”
From Aglaia Francesca, En Erebos Phos Iseum, Rome, Italy: I am mentoring Angela M. Chamberlaine of Waynesville, Missouri, USA. She wishes to found her Iseum: Magna Mater Iseum - dedicated to the celebration and honoring of the Goddess in her many forms and names, with special emphasis placed on the Magna Mater, Kybele. The Iseum is a safe place for all who seek to grow in knowledge, love, and connection with the Divine. We intend to meet for study, practice, ritual work, sabbat/esbat celebration, and social events. We aim to build a community of like-minded individuals that honor “The Great Mother” by living in as eco-friendly, earth healing a way as possible and who do works to promote the healing & sustainability of the earth, love of all its creatures, and compassionate connection with the people who call it home. We believe in truth, beauty, healing, kindness, and love to all beings. And that by our works these things should be evident in our lives. E-mail:  amjrchamberlain@yahoo.com

Lyceums: College of Isis

Lyceum of the Three Mothers, Ireland: “Today, the 2nd February, five new priestesses were ordained within the Lyceum of the Three Mothers: Anna Coote, Barbara Charleton, Olwen Pendred, Maeliossa Kelly and Amy Brunton. It was a beautiful ceremony and we wish them all much love and the guidance of Isis and their Patron Deities on their vocational path. Love and blessings, Cait Branigan.”

David deRoeck, Ascension of Isis Lyceum, Dublin, Ireland: “With great pleasure I am able to announce the re-imagined Ascension of Isis Mystery School website www.ascensionofisis.com. The site will be re-launched on February 2nd myself and the team have worked diligently to make it more user friendly it does contain elements of the previous site plus plenty of new content. So without further ado it is up to you and me to spread the word and we hope you enjoy the new site.”

From Sarah Rooke, Lyceum of Isis and Sekhmet of the Stars, Portsmouth, UK: I am pleased to be able to report that the Rev Govindacharya Ramanuja Dasan (Govinda Dasan) of the Iseum of the Ancient Mysteries and the Goddess in Los Angeles, California has gained his third magi degree of Venus and Vishnu in the College of Isis, Fellowship of Isis.

Sarah writes: “I am pleased to announce that Mgt  Rafael Severino from Panama has gained three magi degrees in the College of Isis, Fellowship of Isis.  Namely Mystery of the Spheres (1st), Rite of Rebirth (2nd) and Isis and Osiris (Awakening of Osiris) (3rd).”

Sarah has sponsored two new members via her lyceum: Robson Marins and Jaguar Dragonfire.

Greetings from Gaynor, Archdruidess with Universal Grove Of Light Keepers within The Druid Clan Of Dana and Lyceum Universal Learning. I have facilitated my first Magi Degree - it being Moon Magi for Tarnia Spaven.

I have begun to fly Solo from my Hierophant facilitator who was Sarah Rooke. I understood from her that when I facilitate others, I would need to inform you.. If this is not protocol could you please point me in the right direction.. I have been bereaved a few times since I was initiated as a Lyceum and Druid Grove last year and feel that now I am returned to my path a lot stronger.

Exert of Tarnia Spavens  report:

"The circle was cast from the West, new moon, sidhe of water, to the South, full moon, sidhe of fire, then to the East, waning moon, sidhe of air and finally to the North, dark moon, sidhe of earth.  I followed the casting of the circle and visualised a silver light emitting from the wand's tip.

At this point I started to dance from right to left in a widdershins fashion and two other circles of dancers within the outer circle danced too.  A spiral of energy was created and when the inner circles were being danced, a huge cone of light arose from the centre of the circle where the fire was and spread to envelope us all. We all sank to the ground and I slipped into a deep state of relaxation where small, golden balls of light danced between and around us.

When the bowl of water was offered to me to drink from, the water started to ripple and when my attention was taken to the mist surrounding the crystals I was suddenly sat in the middle of the circle with the bowl of water that we drank from on my lap.  We were asked to gaze into the crystal balls but my eyes were drawn to the bowl of water in my lap instead.  I could feel energy coming off of the crystal balls and it was surrounding me as I gazed into the darkness of the water.
While Selene was being chanted, I gazed into the bowl of water and was shown a huge crystal formation that broke and a spear of crystal separated from the mass and changed into a mystical palace floating on a cloud.  I was sat cross legged, floating in front of this palace made of crystal, surrounded by a sphere of rainbow light. Then we were given the visualisation of a cloud ship, bright white light which rested on the rooftops.

As we ascended in the sphere it became a bright light and as we got higher, energy ribbons were coming off it so that it looked like we were cocooned inside a majestic jellyfish with its tendrils made of pure light.  I felt calmness as though nothing could ever harm me"

I look forward to hearing from you

Druid Clan of Dana
Sarah Rooke, Archdruidess, Grove of Cerridwen and the Grail, Portsmouth, UK: “I am pleased to report that Rafael Severino of Panama has  been initiated as a Druid by attunement in the Druid Clan of Dana.” From Rafael: “The Dolmen constructions are my favorites, I imagined being in front of the dolmen, standing before the three giant stones and feeling the energy of ley lines. … I had the vision of being by a large green plain and in the distance I saw a hill that looked like a figure of the Tor, and being in the land of many colors of Avalon, it was a very magical experience and shamanic.”
Also from Sarah: I am very pleased to announce that Jaguar Dragonfire from Massillon, Ohio, USA has been initiated as a Druid in the Druid Clan of Dana.

Brigid’s Blessings
By Mana Youngbear

Raindrops falling on the ground
Little blessings all around

Scents of wet leaves and darkened stones
Flocks of birds flying Home

In this early morning delight
I feel love’s blessing
warm and bright.

Last night Brigid did Her dance
With her blessings we have a chance

Everywhere the Goddess stepped
Little raindrops, there she left.

Gracing our pathways,
Our roadways
and Valley so dear ,
A sign of hope and love is here

Watersheds are raising up for us
All her Grace we now must trust.

Powerful blessings have begun
It is time for gratitude to be sung

Something beautiful
Something Grand
Abundant Love
All through out our land.

Take this blessed treasure to your breast
Watch you consumption
Balance is the test

Every droplet is like gold
This morning;s reminder that her blessings will unfold

Treasure the water the earth and sky
Treasure this spirit we share .. you and I

With this dance of Brigid I declare
Its time to trust and love and share

Its time to remember why we are here
Its time to cast away all doubt and fear

As I felt this mornings rain
I spoke out loud .. I’m so glad you came !

I feel your footsteps
Mother Maid and Crone
Please make our hearts as your eternal home

Rain is coming
Rain is here
Rain will quench our Earth so dear

Rain will wash away all fear
Rain is coming
Rain is here.

Prayer For Invoking the Light of Isis
By Rev. Ptahmassu Nofra-Uaa, Pr.H
Temple of Isis Nevada

O Isis, I call forth your radiant Ka,
Born of Ra, engendered by Geb,
Crowned with the celestial light
Of Nuit, the diadem of the starry
Vault!

Awake, O light, ascend, O light,
Grow, O light, bestow, O light,
Become, O light, the becoming
O the beginning!

Dispel, O light, the shadow of the
Shadow, and descend, O light,
The ladder of heaven!

I am the heir of heaven,
The child of the first becoming,
And my light is your Ka,
O Isis of the glorious dawn,
Great Enchantress upon whose brow
The sun rises, the skies tremble,
The waters spring forth their abundance.

Grow, O light, ascend, O light,
Come into being as the name of Auset,
Auset, whose breath in the beginning
Ra commanded, whose body the sky bore,
Whose love Ausir brought out the falcon
From the gates of the sky!

I am your light, O Isis,
Your crown, O Isis,
Your glittering stars, O Isis,
And I am not afraid!

Grow, O Light, ascend, O light,
Come into being in me, O light,
That your Ka may become the essence of me,
In you, me, in me, you,
The great work coming into being in the
Beginning, transforming the void into
Your substance.

O Queen of Heaven, almighty Isis,
May your light be my light,
And my light be your light.
In eternity and everlastingness it shall be.

Beltane 2014 - Animal Family of Isis

From Mana Young, Temple of the Muse, Willits, California, USA: I would like to add Matilda Merryweather to the Animal Family of Isis. She loves the outdoors, eats mostly fruit and is very partial to pink and soft blankets. Her birthday is April 29th and she is 9 years old. We love her very much. She loves to sleep in front of my altar and I think that she actually believes she is a cat.

Dulce Domum - Sandra Ramdhanie

Dulce Domum

Received word from Rosetta Broy that on January 7, 2014, Sandra Venn Ramdhanie was rushed to the hospital with Pneumonia and complications. She had a serious infection and was admitted to the ICU.  Unfortunately Sandra passed away shortly afterward.  She was a long time FOI member. Caroline Wise writes: “Sandra regularly attended the Festival Gatherings at the Foundation Centre Temple in Clonegal in the 80s and 90s. she was one of the early ordained Priestesses. I met her there a few times with her daughter Tanith Isis. Sandra was so interesting to talk to, a vibrant personality.”
